4-Chlorophenoxyacetic acid 4-CPA is used as plant growth regulator, 4-CPA is absorbed by plant via root, stem, leaf, bloom and fruit. Widely used on tomato to prevent abscission of bloom and fruit.

Solubility: Sparingly soluble in water. Readily soluble in most organic solvents.
4-CPA sodium salt is soluble in water.
Stability: It is stable at elevated temperatures (54 ℃) and on exposure to metals, but degrades (30% loss in 24 hours) on exposure to sunlight.
Toxicity:
Acute oral LD50 for rats 2200mg/kg;
Acute dermal LD50 for rats>2200mg/kg;
Irritation to skin and eyes.
LC50 for fish: carp 3-6ppm, locah (48hr) 2.5ppm, water flea>40ppm.
