Furfural is a colorless and transparent oily liquid produced by hydrolysis and dehydration of pentosan in plant fiber raw materials. It is also called furan formaldehyde. It has a special fragrance and its color quickly turns yellow under the action of light, heat, air oxidation and inorganic acid. It is brown and finally dark brown. It is also easy to polymerize and is in the form of a resin.

Application area:

1, Used as a raw material for organic synthesis, also used in synthetic resins, varnishes, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, rubber and coatings;
2, Mainly used as industrial solvent for the preparation of decyl alcohol, decanoic acid, tetrahydrofuran, γ-valerolactone, pyrrole, tetrahydropyrrole, etc.;
3, Used as an analytical reagent; used in tanning leather. It should be stored in a cool, ventilated warehouse, protected from light, to prevent exposure to sunlight, and away from fire.
4, Furfural is a raw material for preparing many pharmaceuticals and industrial products. Furan can be made into succinaldehyde by electrolytic reduction, and is a raw material for producing atropine. Some derivatives of furfural have strong bactericidal ability and the spectrum of inhibition is quite broad. For example, furfural is condensed with 5-aminofurfural and then with semicarbazide hydrochloride to obtain nitrofurazone, which is a disinfectant antiseptic.
5, Furfural is a raw material for furan acrylic acid, guanamine fumaric acid, adipic acid, sterol and other intermediates, and is widely used in the synthesis of fine chemicals such as medicines, pesticides, veterinary drugs, dyes, perfumes, rubber auxiliaries, and preservatives. The field in which furfural is most consumed is a raw material for solvents and synthetic resins.

Leakage treatment:
Quickly evacuate personnel from the contaminated area to a safe area, and conduct isolation to strictly restrict access. Cut off the fire. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus and wear fire protective clothing. Cut off the source of leakage as much as possible to prevent entry into restricted spaces such as sewers and flood drains. Small amount of leakage: Mix with sand dry lime or soda ash. It can also be rinsed with a large amount of water, diluted in water and placed in the wastewater system. A large number of leaks: building dikes or digging pits; spray water to cool and dilute the steam, protect the site personnel, and dilute the spill into incombustibles. Use an explosion-proof pump to transfer to a tank truck or special collector, recycle or transport it to a waste disposal site for disposal.

o Inhalation: Remove quickly from the site to fresh air. Keep the airway open. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, perform artificial respiration immediately. Seek medical attention.
o Ingestion: Drink plenty of warm water, induce vomiting, and seek medical attention.
• Extinguishing methods: Extinguishing media: water spray, foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder, sand. Fire extinguishing with water is not effective, but water can be used to keep the container cool in the fire.
